  • Explore multiple platforms: Try combining Google Trends, Exploding Topics, and social listening tools like Talkwalker to uncover emerging patterns from different angles.

Consumer Psychology for DTC & E-Commerce Paid Ads | Founder, Tether Insights | Helping Media Buyers Scale Ad Creative & Drop CPA Using Behavioral Frameworks

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗵𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁. 𝗡𝗼 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝘄 𝗶𝘁. But one sock brand did. A sock brand I spoke with spotted a tiny shift in consumer behavior—𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 it blew up—and turned it into their lowest CPA campaign ever. The wildest part: they found the trend using a 100% free tool. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸? 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴. The biggest difference between a winning DTC brand and a struggling one isn’t budget—it’s timing. 👉 Move too late, and you’re in a price war. 👉 Move early, and you print money. Here’s what happened: On a call last week, I casually mentioned Pinterest Predicts—because Pinterest has an 80% accuracy rate in forecasting viral trends months before they peak. 𝗔𝗞𝗔: 𝟴𝟬% 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲, 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲. This sock brand took action. We noticed that "cherry" patterns were quietly trending up. Within 24 hours, they launched a cherry sock collection, tied their creative to the aesthetic, and started testing new ads. 🚀 Today: → The product/ad combo is their 3rd highest spender → Lowest CPA across all campaigns → Crushing their new customer acquisition costs 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲. 🚀 Brands that move fast have: ✅ Ads that convert immediately ✅ Higher margins (first-mover advantage) ✅ Less reliance on discounts & promos 🐢 Brands that wait too long: ❌ Spend more to compete ❌ Launch when the market is saturated ❌ End up in a price war just to survive 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 before they blow up? Here are 4 free tools I use daily to track consumer trends before they hit mainstream: 📌 Pinterest Trends/Predicts → Forecasts viral trends months in advance 🛍️ Etsy & Amazon Search Data → Shows what niche buyers are actively searching for 🎥 TikTok Comments → Raw, unfiltered consumer obsession in real time 💬 Reddit Threads → Where micro-trends are born Most brands have access to this data—but never use it (or aren’t using it enough). 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲. 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗮𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲.

New York weather is just as unpredictable as audience trends. One moment it's sun-soaked riverside brainstorming. Next, it's total chaos to save your laptop from rain. Audiences behave the same. So how do you spot shifts before they show up in your reports? Here are my go-to tools for trendspotting: 1. Google Trends – Quick check on what’s spiking (by city, category, or keyword) 2. Talkwalker / Brandwatch – Social listening to catch sentiment changes and emerging themes 3. Reddit, Inc. Threads, Instagram & YouTube Comments – Real conversations. Raw language. Hidden pain points. 4. TikTok Search – Gen Z’s search engine. What people search = what they care about. 5. Meta Ads Library - Reverse engineer what’s being run by top advertisers 6. LinkedIn Feed + LinkedIn News - For B2B content patterns about what topics professionals are posting/commenting on 7. Exploding Topics - Curated list of breakout topics across industries before they hit the mainstream 8. Answer the Public - Visual keyword cloud of real Google searches (great for SEO) Social listening experts, what did I miss? #ContentMarketing #SentimentAnalysis #SocialMediaMarketing #SocialMediaAnalytics #SocialListening

Ever wonder why some e-commerce brands always seem to have the right products in stock, while others struggle with overstock or empty shelves? It all comes down to demand forecasting—and in 2025, it’s getting an AI-powered upgrade. ● From guesswork to precision Traditional forecasting relies on historical sales data. • Four tools I use to verify the stage of a trending search term: 1. Google Trends – No surprise here. The trick with Google Trends is to use a mix of long and short-tail keywords to get a full picture of search behavior. Pro tip: check out the “Related Queries” box at the bottom of the page to see how much related terms have grown. If you see “Breakout” next to a product-related term, congrats—you might have just struck gold. 2. IBISWorld – This tool provides insights into thousands of industries, outlining every major barrier to entry, growth factor, lifecycle stage, and more. It offers a valuable bird’s-eye view to help you decide if a blue or red ocean strategy is best for your brand. 3. Exploding Topics – This tool takes a more mathematical approach, factoring in all variations of a term, both long and short-tail, to give a comprehensive view of where a trend stands. I also enjoy browsing random trending topics here—it’s a great way to spark creative inspiration by seeing what’s currently capturing people’s attention. 4. Product Opportunity Explorer in Seller Central – Sometimes I wonder if Ada Lovelace could have imagined the power of her creation when she invented computer code. This is by far the most user-friendly dashboard I’ve found for understanding consumer behavior at the point of conversion. It sheds light on gaps in the marketplace and shows which problems customers are seeking to solve with current solutions. What’s your go-to tool for spotting trends and gauging market demand? #trendresearch #tools #marketinganalysis

Most entrepreneurs make the same mistake when researching trends: They confuse what’s popular now with what’s about to explode. That’s why some businesses always seem “psychic” about being first to market. They’re not, they’re just using trend forecasting tools the rest of us ignore. Here’s the gap: most platforms just show you what’s already trending. By the time you see it, you’re already late. The smarter play is using forecasting tools that look forward, not backward. Some highlights: ⦿ Exploding Topics → Deep learning forecasts on 750k+ tracked trends, filtering by industry and future growth. ⦿ Google Trends + Glimpse → Great for spotting signals but limited for true forecasting. ⦿ Trendhunter → Massive crowdsourced database, but risk of chasing fads. ⦿ HubSpot Trends → Community-driven insights (value comes from founder discussions). ⦿ CB Insights & WGSN → Enterprise-grade forecasting for investors and global brands. The real takeaway: stop chasing yesterday’s trends. Start forecasting tomorrow’s opportunities. Because if you’re waiting for something to trend on Google, Reddit, or TikTok, someone else already saw it 6–12 months earlier.
