In January 2025, we introduced the new media upload endpoints in the X API v2, enabling developers to programmatically upload images, GIFs, and videos to X. Based on your valuable feedback, we’ve been working on further enhancements to improve the developer experience.
New Dedicated Endpoints for Chunked Media Upload
To simplify the chunked media upload process, we’ve replaced the single POST https://api.x.com/2/media/upload endpoint (previously using a commands query parameter with INIT, APPEND, and FINALIZE) with dedicated endpoints for each command:
These changes make the API more intuitive and easier to use.
Upcoming Changes to /2/media/upload Endpoint
Within the next 1-2 weeks, the command query parameter used for chunked uploads will be deprecated for the POST https://api.x.com/2/media/upload endpoint. This endpoint will be exclusively used for one-shot media uploads moving forward (limited to image and subtitle files only.)
Extended Migration Deadline
To give developers ample time to adapt to these new endpoints, we are extending the migration deadline from Wednesday, April 30, 2025, to Friday, May 30, 2025. If you are still using the legacy v1.1 Media Upload endpoints, please ensure you transition to the X API v2 endpoints by this final deadline.
