Hamilton Health Sciences is on a journey to transform our oldest hospital buildings and ensure our services meet the needs of our patients and community, now and into the future.

Some of our hospital facilities are almost 100 years old. They were built to the standards of the day and no longer make sense for modern patient care. These spaces make it hard for our people to do their best work and are far from what patients and families expect from their care experience today.

At the same time, our community is growing, so our hospital sites must evolve and expand to meet region demand and deliver the kind of care our region deserves.

Transforming our hospitals for modern health care

Our journey started in 2015 with a bold plan called Our Healthy Future (OHF). Thousands of voices from across the hospital, community and regions that we serve came together to let us know what was most important. This plan was approved by the provincial government in 2017 and set the foundation for the work underway today.

More than a decade later, we launched our new strategy, Vision 2030, which sets a clear path to modern, connected, and patient-centered care supported by spaces designed for the future through the Build aim. We are well on our way to rebuilding our aging facilities, with one project under construction, one in its first year of operations, and another approved to continue detailed planning.
